We are an agricultural and livestock company registered under Ugandan law, with deep roots in the DR Congo. Our medium-term calling is to develop intensive agriculture in DR Congo, Uganda and the Central African Republic to meet the food needs of the continent and help alleviate the growing global food crisis.
Our ambition rests on three pillars: to produce, to transform and to distribute food products, and above all to develop agriculture and livestock at the continental level.
Imena Commodities did not begin with a business plan. It began with generations of breeders and farmers who fed a region, lost almost everything, and chose to build again.
Breeders and farmers in North Kivu organised themselves to create an Association of Breeders and Farmers Cooperatives, ACOGENOKI, headquartered in Goma. Our founder's family were members and promoters of the structure from the start.
The cooperative prospered until it held more than a million dairy cows, more than 750,000 animals for butchery and millions of hectares of arable land, coming to serve the food production market of more than 100 million people in DR Congo and its neighbouring countries.
As the European market opened, conflict swept the sub-region and destroyed what generations had built. The loss shaped our founder's conviction that food security must be rebuilt on African soil, by African hands, with committed partners.
Imena Holdings Limited was created to take up that unfinished work: producing grain at scale in Uganda, with a roadmap into DR Congo and the Central African Republic, and an open invitation to partners who share the mission.
Africa has millions of hectares of unexploited arable land, yet millions of its people, including the displaced and refugees, face hunger. Climatic calamities are driving scarcity on a scale that worries everyone. At the same time, the sub-region is organising itself into economic integration zones to jointly secure its economic, social and political future.
It is in this context that we are committed to defeating the challenge of hunger, with a determination to bring our accessible arable land into production and to invite economic actors from the agricultural and financial industries to build that future with us.
A continent that feeds itself: intensive, mechanised agriculture across Uganda, DR Congo and the Central African Republic supplying food security for the region and beyond.
To produce, transform and distribute food products at scale, and to develop agriculture and livestock at the continental level, in synergy with partners who share the mission.
Stewardship of land and livestock, transparency with partners, resilience learnt through hardship, and a commitment to common interests over short-term gain.
Whether you are a buyer, a partner or an investor, we would welcome the conversation.
